Mild
The white tip of the toenail turns a yellow or brownish color. Some debris may be visible beneath the toenail. |

Normal
The toenail tip is whitish in color and extends beyond the length of the toe. No debris is visible beneath the toenail. |
|
Moderate
Yellow or brown color spreads inward on the toenail. The nail becomes thick and brittle. The toenail may begin to separate from the underlying nail bed. Additional debris collects under the toenail. |

Severe
The entire toenail may be destroyed. Or the entire toenail is yellow, thick, and brittle. Parts of the toenail may have broken off. |
